When can I change the dome or the ear tip or the mould of the hearing aid?

The users of the behind-the-ear (BTE) model or receiver-in-ear (RIE) model of hearing aid should know when exactly they could change the dome or the ear tip or the mould of their hearing device. The custom mould is a rubber like material made out of silicon and they reside in a wet or humid environment, hence it is important to change those at regular intervals. Also, if users experience any discomfort while using hearing aids with a custom mould, it could be due to an improper design of the mould that might cause the discomfort or it leads to poor performance of hearing aids due to leakage of sound. When to change Ear Domes or Ear Tips?

Domes are available in different sizes one for every size of canal. As the dome itself is the first point of contact of the hearing aid with the ear canal, it gets contaminated easily due to ear wax or other debris that prevents sound from getting out of it, thus leading to reduced performance for the instrument. 

• Change ear domes or ear tips when you find too much wax accumulation in it

• Change ear domes or ear tips when it doesn’t fit your ear in proper manner
• Change ear domes or ear tips when they are terribly yellow ripe in color

When to change Custom mould?

Custom ear mould are different from ear tips. Custom earmolds are made to the size of the user’s ear canal. Get a new ear mould if,

• The ear mould is loose, not fitting your ear 

• If the color of the ear mould changes to dark yellow or highly dis-coloured
• If you sense whistling noise in your ear due to leakage of sound
